Samuel Amoateng’s professional journey spans accounting, law enforcement, and healthcare, giving him a unique perspective on leadership and problem-solving. He began his career as an Internal Auditor with the Ghana Police Service, where he spent over two decades ensuring compliance, accountability, and financial integrity. After relocating to the United States, Samuel transitioned into healthcare, driven by a desire to make a more direct impact on people’s lives. Today, he works as a Forensic Treatment Specialist at Whiting Forensic Hospital, providing therapeutic care, monitoring patient progress, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support individuals with complex mental health needs.

Currently, Samuel is pursuing his Master of Science in Management with a concentration in Healthcare at Eastern Connecticut State University. He chose Eastern because of its reputation for preparing ethical, service-driven leaders and for offering a program that could leverage his diverse professional background while equipping him to lead in complex organizational environments.

Throughout the program, Samuel has found the most value in experiences that combine theory with real-world application. Group projects, case studies, and collaborative learning challenged him to think critically, apply leadership concepts, and work with peers from diverse industries. Supportive instructors provided guidance and encouragement that strengthened his confidence and helped him grow as a leader.

Balancing graduate studies with a full-time career in healthcare has been challenging, but Samuel has developed resilience, discipline, and effective time management skills. He has been able to immediately apply what he’s learned in his work, from improving patient care coordination to approaching organizational challenges with a strategic mindset.

The program has also expanded Samuel’s professional network, connecting him with classmates and colleagues from a variety of fields. These relationships provide not just academic support, but also lasting friendships and professional inspiration.

Samuel describes his program experience in three words: transformative, challenging, and rewarding. It has reshaped how he sees himself as a leader, required perseverance in balancing responsibilities, and provided growth that is meaningful both personally and professionally.

Looking ahead, Samuel envisions using his combined expertise in healthcare, finance, and management to step into broader leadership roles, contribute to healthcare policy and operations, and make a positive impact where strategy and compassion intersect.

Samuel hopes his story inspires others to pursue continuing education, showing that it is never too late to reinvent yourself, broaden your knowledge, and transform your career—regardless of your background.
